Rolling Shutter Guide
Programming and controls
- How do I add a Gaposa remote, or pair a new one when the old one is lost? With a working remote: hold its left back button until the motor moves, release, then within 5 seconds press the matching arrow on the new remote. With no working remote: power-cycle that motor only, then within 8 seconds hold the new remote's left back button and STOP until it jogs. That erases every remote; then pair the new one.Read the guide →
- How do I add a Somfy remote, wall switch or key fob to my shutter? On the Somfy remote that already runs the shutter, press and hold the small programming button on the back until the motor jogs. Then, on the new remote or wall switch (with its channel selected), press and hold its programming button until the motor jogs again. The new control is paired; the old one keeps working.Read the guide →
- How do I adjust the top or bottom limit on a Gaposa shutter motor? On a Gaposa radio motor, select only that shutter's channel, then hold the right-hand back button together with the arrow for the limit you are changing (UP for the top, DOWN for the bottom) until the motor jogs. Nudge the curtain to the new stop, then hold STOP until it jogs again. Manual-override motors use screws instead.Read the guide →
- What battery does my shutter remote take, and how do I change it?Most Gaposa shutter remotes take one CR2032 coin cell; the Gaposa 16-channel takes a CR2450 and the Gaposa keypad two CR2032s. Somfy's Smoove wall remotes take a CR2032 and the Telis 16 two AAA cells. Open the back, slide the old cell out, fit the new one positive side up, and test the remote.Read the guide →
- Can I control my rolling shutters from my phone?Yes, if the shutter has a radio (remote-control) motor. A small Wi-Fi bridge learns the remote's signal and lets a phone app or voice assistant run the shutter. Roll-A-Shield's standard bridge, the Bond Bridge, covers about 2,500 sq ft and up to 30 devices and works with Gaposa and Somfy radio motors, not OZRoll battery or wall-switch motors.Read the guide →
- Can I turn a switch-operated rolling shutter into a remote-controlled one?Yes, two ways. An electrician can wire a radio receiver, such as Gaposa's QCZ09U control unit, between the power supply and the existing motor, which keeps the motor and adds Gaposa remotes. Or the switch motor is replaced with a radio motor, which brings that brand's remotes and remote limit setting. Either way, the mains connection is an electrician's job.Read the guide →
- How do I adjust the limits on a Gaposa manual-override (CMO) shutter motor?A Gaposa manual-override motor sets its limits with two screws on the motor head, not from the remote. The screw beside the up-pointing arrow sets the bottom limit and the one beside the down-pointing arrow sets the top. Turn toward plus for more travel, minus for less, then test.Read the guide →
- How do I pair a Gaposa shutter keypad and change its code?Pair a Gaposa keypad from a remote that already runs the shutter: hold the remote's left-hand back button until the motor moves, then type 1, 1 and UP on the keypad. Factory codes are 11 for UP and 22 for DOWN. To change a code, hold 0 with UP or DOWN, enter the old code, then the new one twice.Read the guide →
- How do I program a Gaposa Sense motor: automatic limits, direction and reset?Pair a Gaposa Sense remote: hold its PROG-TX button until the motor runs, then press the matching arrow within 5 seconds. Fix the direction before limits. To set limits, hold PROG-FC over 2 seconds, press STOP at the top and STOP again, then hold DOWN over 2 seconds. A full reset is PROG-TX plus STOP held at least 15 seconds.Read the guide →
- How do I program a Gaposa rolling shutter motor from scratch?Power only the motor you are programming. Hold the left back button until the motor moves, then within 5 seconds press the arrow matching the way it moved. Hold the right back button until it jogs, hold UP to the top and press STOP, then hold DOWN to the bottom and press STOP. Up limit first.Read the guide →
- How do I reset a Gaposa rolling shutter motor?A Gaposa motor resets three ways: hold the left back button and STOP on a paired remote for at least 15 seconds; power-cycle the motor, then within 8 seconds hold the same buttons on an unpaired Gaposa remote; or hold the motor-head white button. A full reset erases every paired remote, so pair again and check the limits.Read the guide →
- How do I hard-reset a solar rolling shutter motor?Unscrew the motor cord from the solar panel at its threaded connector and leave it apart a full 60 seconds. Reconnect with the two arrows facing each other. Within 8 seconds of power returning, hold the left back (SYNC) button and STOP on any Gaposa remote until the motor jogs. Every remote is now erased, so pair one again.Read the guide →
- How do I factory-reset a Somfy RTS shutter motor?Use Somfy's dual power cut on that motor only: power off about 2 seconds, on 5 to 15 seconds, off about 2 seconds, then on, and the motor jogs. Then hold the programming button on a Somfy remote until the motor jogs (twice on an Altus RTS). On an Altus RTS this erases every paired control and both limits.Read the guide →
- Can I put my rolling shutters on a timer or schedule?Yes, on a radio (remote-control) motor. Gaposa's Wi-Fi hub runs up to 10 schedules from a phone, by time of day or by sunrise and sunset, and Gaposa's QCTZ16SY timer remote runs up to 6 from its own clock (the look-alike QCTZ16Y has no timer). Somfy's Wi-Fi hub also runs schedules. A wall-switch motor needs converting to radio first.Read the guide →
- Do rolling shutters work with smart-home systems like Control4, Lutron, Crestron, Alexa and Google Home?Yes, if the shutters have radio (remote-control) motors. A Bond Bridge, Roll-A-Shield's standard bridge, adds Alexa and Google voice control and connects to Control4, Crestron, Savant and other systems. Lutron is not on Bond's list; Gaposa makes dry-contact transmitter panels that connect Gaposa motors to Lutron, Control4, Crestron and Savant.Read the guide →
- How do I set the limits on a SIMU shutter motor and pair a remote? On a SIMU Hz radio motor, press UP and DOWN together until it jogs, check the direction, run down to the lower limit, press STOP and UP together, stop just before fully open, press STOP and DOWN together, stop it, then hold STOP until it jogs. Finish by holding the transmitter's programming button until the shutter reacts.Read the guide →
- How do I set the limits on a Somfy manual-override shutter motor?A Somfy manual-override motor keeps its limits on two spring-loaded push-buttons, one white and one yellow, on the motor head at the motor end of the shutter box. Push both in to clear the limits, run the curtain to each stopping point and release a button there, testing which button holds which limit.Read the guide →
- How do I set the limits on a Somfy RTS shutter motor?Power only the Somfy RTS motor you are setting. Press UP and DOWN together until it jogs and check the direction. From the top limit press MY and DOWN, stop at the bottom limit, press MY and UP, then hold MY about 2 seconds until it jogs (STOP on a DecoFlex). Briefly press the programming button to finish.Read the guide →
- How do I adjust the limit screws on a switch-operated shutter motor? On the motor head, the screw whose arrow points up sets the bottom limit; the down-arrow screw sets the top. Turn toward + to add travel and toward – to take it away. For a limit that overruns, turn toward – until the shutter stops short by itself, then turn toward + to creep it into place.Read the guide →
- Can I run two or more rolling shutters from one switch, remote or power feed? From one remote, yes: pair several radio motors to one channel, or use a multi-channel remote's all-channels or group setting. From one power feed, yes for radio motors, wired by an electrician to the motor maker's junction-box rule. From one ordinary wall switch, generally no: Somfy's wired motors and Gaposa's mechanical-limit motors allow only one motor per switch.Read the guide →
- Wall switch, key switch or keypad: which control is right for my rolling shutter? It depends on the motor. A switch-operated (wired) motor takes a paddle or toggle wall switch, either momentary or maintained, or an outdoor key switch. A radio motor takes a battery wall remote that looks like a switch, or a code keypad, with no wiring at all. Pick by who uses it and from which side of the shutter.Read the guide →
- Which Gaposa remote do I need for my rolling shutters? For one shutter, a single-channel handheld or on-wall Gaposa remote. For several, a 5-channel remote, which runs one shutter or all five at once, or the 16-channel with a screen and schedules. For staff or shared access, the code keypad or a key fob. For phone control, add a Wi-Fi bridge. One shutter can answer several remotes at once.Read the guide →
- Which Somfy remote do I need for my rolling shutter?Somfy RTS remotes run Somfy RTS shutter motors; pick one by how many shutters it must control. A 1-channel Telis or on-wall Smoove runs one shutter, a 4-channel runs four or all together, and a 16-channel with a screen runs up to sixteen. A key fob suits a car, and a Wi-Fi hub adds phone control.Read the guide →
