How do I pair a Gaposa shutter keypad and change its code?

Short answer

Pair a Gaposa keypad from a remote that already runs the shutter: hold the remote's left-hand back button until the motor moves, then type 1, 1 and UP on the keypad. Factory codes are 11 for UP and 22 for DOWN. To change a code, hold 0 with UP or DOWN, enter the old code, then the new one twice.

Key facts

  • A new or reset Gaposa keypad uses code 11 for UP and 22 for DOWN.
  • You cannot pair a keypad on its own: you need a Gaposa remote that already runs that shutter, set to the right channel. Roll-A-Shield data
  • You have 10 seconds to type a code. A long beep means the code was accepted; five rapid beeps mean a wrong code.
  • A forgotten code is cleared by holding the RESET button on the back of the keypad body for 5 seconds, which returns it to 11 and 22.
  • Roll-A-Shield offers the digital keypad only on Gaposa radio motors, including override motors; an override motor has no obstacle detection, so check the curtain is clear before closing it by code. Roll-A-Shield data

Applies to: Gaposa wireless digital keypads (QCTRKP and QCTKP) paired to Gaposa radio motors, including Sense and radio manual-override motors. Not for wired key switches or Somfy motors.

What is a Gaposa keypad, and what can it control?

It is a wireless keypad that mounts on an outside wall: you type a code, press UP or DOWN, and the shutter moves just as it would from a remote. It suits businesses where staff open and close a storefront at the start and end of the day, because each person needs only a code.

On Roll-A-Shield shutters the digital keypad is offered on Gaposa radio motors only, not on Somfy motors or wired switch motors. It works with Gaposa manual-override motors as well, and unlike a mechanical key switch it lets you change the codes.

Safety: Obstacle detection is limited to Gaposa Sense motors, 10-50 Nm (model codes XQ5E wired and XQ5EZ radio), and the Gaposa Autonomo solar motors; manual-override motors do not have it. Roll-A-Shield's service team flags this for any customer with a keypad on an override motor. Look at the curtain before you close it by code.

How do I pair the keypad to the shutter?

You pair it from a remote that already runs the shutter, using the keypad's factory UP code.

  1. On the working remote, select the channel for this shutter. Run the shutter briefly to make sure the right one answers, then stop it.
  2. Turn the remote over. The left-hand back button is for programming; the right-hand one sets limits and is not used here.
  3. Hold the left-hand button for a few seconds, until the motor moves.
  4. On the keypad, type 1, 1, then press UP. You have 10 seconds to finish typing a code.
  5. The keypad is paired and the shutter answers it. Stop the shutter with the remote.
  6. Test DOWN: type 2, 2, then press DOWN. The shutter lowers.

If the keypad beeps but the shutter does not move, see Keypad not responding, or forgot the code. If you have no working remote, pair a new remote first; see How do I add a Gaposa remote?

How do I change the keypad code?

Change the UP code and the DOWN code separately, each with the 0 key and the old code.

UP code

  1. Hold 0, then press UP. Release UP, then release 0. The keypad gives a long beep.
  2. Type the old UP code, then press UP.
  3. Type the new code, then press UP.
  4. Type the new code again, then press UP. A long beep confirms it.
  5. Wait for the keypad light to go out before you start the DOWN code.

DOWN code

  1. Hold 0, then press DOWN. Release DOWN, then release 0. Long beep.
  2. Type the old DOWN code, then press DOWN.
  3. Type the new code, press DOWN, type it again, press DOWN. A long beep confirms it.
  4. Test both directions with the new codes.

You need the old code to do this. Change the codes when the keypad is first installed and whenever someone who knew them leaves.

What do the beeps mean?

You hear Meaning
A short beep A number key was pressed
A long beep The right code was entered and UP or DOWN sent the command; or a step of a code change was accepted; or a reset finished
Five rapid beeps Wrong code, or part of a code-change step

What if I have forgotten the code?

Reset the keypad itself; it goes back to code 11 for UP and 22 for DOWN.

  1. Pry off the keypad's top black cover with a small screwdriver.
  2. Unscrew the keypad body from its back plate.
  3. On the back of the body, press and hold the RESET button for 5 seconds, until the keypad gives a long beep.
  4. Screw the body back onto the plate, lift the clear LED cover, and press the black cover back on.
  5. Test with 11 and UP. If the shutter does not answer, pair the keypad again from a working remote as above, then set new codes.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a separate code for UP and DOWN?

Yes. The keypad stores two codes, one sent with UP and one with DOWN; out of the box they are 11 and 22. Change each one separately.

Does the keypad replace my remote?

No. It pairs to the motor like any additional remote, and the remote you paired it from keeps working. You need a working remote to pair the keypad in the first place.

Will resetting the keypad affect my remotes?

No. The RESET button on the keypad returns the keypad itself to its factory codes. Your remotes and the shutter's limits are stored in the motor, not the keypad.

What battery does the Gaposa keypad take?

Two CR2032 coin cells, per Gaposa's product data. Low batteries can cut the keypad's range by 25 to 30 percent, so change them if it starts to work only up close.
