How do I buy a rolling shutter if I live outside Phoenix?

Measuring, ordering and installing · Rolling Shutter Guide

How do I buy a rolling shutter if I live outside Phoenix?

Short answer

Roll-A-Shield sells nationwide from its Tempe factory. Outside metro Phoenix you choose a route: self-install, with the shutter shipped to you with a guide; a local dealer, where one covers your area; or the Install Support Program, where Roll-A-Shield manages a local installer. Shutters take about 10 business days to build, and freight is quoted separately.

Roll-A-Shield builds every shutter at its factory in Tempe, Arizona, and sells to customers well beyond the Phoenix area. What changes outside metro Phoenix is who measures and installs, how the shutter reaches you, and what the warranty covers. This page walks through the buying process; choosing an installer is covered in more depth on finding an installer, or using your own contractor.

What are my options?

Three routes, and a Roll-A-Shield rep helps you pick once you say whether you want to install it yourself.

Self-install Local dealer Install Support Program
Who measures You, on the measure sheet Agreed with the dealer The local installer
Who installs You or your contractor The dealer A third-party installer managed by Roll-A-Shield
Where it ships To you, or collected in Tempe Arranged with the dealer To the installer's facility
Where available Anywhere Where a dealer covers your area Some areas

In the rest of Arizona and out of state alike, the route depends on whether a dealer or an Install Support installer covers your area; a shipped self-install is always available.

How do I get a price?

Start with rough sizes and photos for a ballpark; the firm price comes from a proper measure.

Send the rough width and height of each opening, and Roll-A-Shield can give you a ballpark figure. For a self-install, the build sizes and the firm price come from your completed measure sheet; on an Install Support job, from the installer's final measurements, which you sign off before production. Outside metro Phoenix the shutter and the installation are priced separately. Typical shutter prices are on how much rolling shutters cost.

Before you measure, read how to measure for a rolling shutter and mistakes to avoid when ordering.

How long does it take?

About 10 business days to build and about 2 weeks to reach you, depending on distance. Freight transit adds a few days on top of the build, and farther destinations take longer. A rush is sometimes possible, depending on the production schedule, and a fee may apply; a rep confirms it. Lead times in more detail are on how long a custom rolling shutter takes.

How does it get to me, and what does shipping cost?

Small parts go by parcel carrier, and built shutters by freight unless they are short enough for a parcel carrier.

  • A shutter under 96 in long can travel by parcel carrier; longer ones go by LTL freight on a pallet.
  • Freight depends on the size, weight and destination of the order; it is shown on your written quote, and the final weight comes from the packed shipment.
  • You can collect from the factory in Tempe instead, weekdays after 1 PM, which avoids freight.
  • Put any delivery-address problem on the order, such as no loading dock or a steep grade, because problems from unrecorded address conditions are not covered.

When it arrives, check it with the driver there and report damage within 2 business days; see what ships with a rolling shutter and what to check. Cost drivers are covered on shipping costs, nationwide and Canada.

How do I pay?

A 50% deposit starts the order and the balance is paid before it ships; a shutter ships only when it is paid for. On an Install Support job there is a third, separate payment for the installation. If a design detail changes after the deposit, the quote is revised and signed again; once the shutter is in production, changes are generally not possible.

What warranty do I get?

The same parts, motor and electronics terms as in Phoenix, without labor. Outside metro Phoenix the warranty is parts only, no labor: 5 years on shutter parts, 5 on motors, 2 on electronic components and 1 on 15 mm strap manual shutters, from the date of installation. Following a published Roll-A-Shield guide does not void the warranty. Mains wiring must be done by a licensed electrician. The full terms are on the warranty page.

What isn't available outside Phoenix?

Three things: rolling screens, which Roll-A-Shield sells and installs in metro Phoenix only; a free measure at your home; and Roll-A-Shield's own service trucks. Technical questions by phone are answered wherever you are: call (480) 921-0200.

Frequently asked questions

Do you ship to Canada or outside the US?

Yes. Roll-A-Shield has shipped internationally, but it is not a standard order: freight, customs and duties, lead time and payment are worked out with a sales rep.

Can I pick the shutter up at the factory instead?

Yes. Orders can be collected from the factory in Tempe, Arizona, weekdays after 1 PM, which avoids freight.

Can production be rushed?

Sometimes, depending on the production schedule at the time, and a fee may apply. Give your deadline when you ask for a quote and a rep will confirm whether it can be met.

Will someone come out to measure?

Not from Roll-A-Shield outside metro Phoenix. For a self-install you measure on the Roll-A-Shield measure sheet; on an Install Support job the local installer takes the final measurements.
