How long does a custom rolling shutter take to build and deliver?

Short answer

A custom rolling shutter takes about 10 business days to build at Roll-A-Shield, and a shipped order typically reaches you about 2 weeks after you order, longer to distant destinations. In metro Phoenix, where Roll-A-Shield measures and installs, allow 3-4 weeks from order to installed shutter.

Key facts

  • A shipped order usually arrives about 2 weeks from the order; a Phoenix-area installed order takes 3-4 weeks. Roll-A-Shield data
  • Orders start with a 50% deposit, and the balance is due before the order ships. Roll-A-Shield data
  • Changes are generally not possible once a shutter is in production, so mount style, motor side and other details are confirmed before it starts. Roll-A-Shield data

Applies to: Custom-built rolling shutters from Roll-A-Shield: shipped self-install orders, dealer orders, factory pickups and metro Phoenix installations.

Rolling shutters are built to order, one opening at a time, so there is a build time instead of shelf stock. How long you wait depends on how the shutter reaches you: shipped, picked up, or installed by Roll-A-Shield in metro Phoenix. This page gives the figures for each, what starts the clock and what can stretch it.

How long does each kind of order take?

How you get it Typical time from order Notes
Built at the factory About 10 business days Ready to ship or collect
Shipped to you about 2 weeks Longer to distant destinations
Picked up in Tempe About 10 business days Will-call weekdays after 1 PM
Measured and installed in metro Phoenix 3-4 weeks Includes a site measure before the build

These are typical figures; the timeline for your own order is confirmed when you place it. Dealers can ask for the expected date on any order.

When does the clock start?

When the order is confirmed and the deposit is paid. Roll-A-Shield takes a 50% deposit to start an order, and the balance is due before it ships, or on completion for a local install. An order does not ship until it is paid in full.

For a metro Phoenix installation, the clock includes a site measure before the shutter is built. For a shipped order, you supply the measurements, so getting them right first time saves the most time; see how to measure for a rolling shutter.

What can make it take longer?

  • Changes after production starts. Before production, a change means a revised quote; once the shutter is in production, changes are generally not possible. Confirm mount style, motor side and color before you sign. See mistakes to avoid when ordering.
  • Distance. Freight transit adds days, and more of them to distant destinations.
  • An unpaid balance. A finished order waits until it is paid.

If a finished order is not collected or shipped, storage is free for two weeks after production; after that a weekly storage charge applies.

How long is it in transit once it ships?

That depends on the destination and the freight option. Most shipped orders arrive about 2 weeks from the order, transit included. You get an email when the order ships so you can track it. How it is packed and carried is on how rolling shutters are packed and shipped.

Can I get it sooner?

Sometimes. Rushing an order depends on the current production schedule, and an expedite fee may apply; expedited freight is charged separately at the carrier's rates. If you have a hard deadline, give it with the full delivery address when you ask for a quote. Roll-A-Shield checks where the order would land in the schedule and the transit time to your address, and gives a yes or no with a ship date. Collecting the order yourself removes the transit time; see picking up an order at the factory.

How long does a replacement take if something is wrong?

If Roll-A-Shield built something wrong, the correction goes to the front of the production queue, whether it is a few parts or a complete rebuild. Replacement parts such as remotes and straps ship by parcel carrier.

Frequently asked questions

Do you have rolling shutters in stock?

No. Every shutter is built to the measurements of its opening, so there is a build time instead of shelf stock.

Can you rush my order?

Sometimes, depending on the production schedule, and an expedite fee may apply. Give the date you need and the full delivery address; Roll-A-Shield checks the schedule and transit time and confirms whether the date can be met.

How do replacement parts reach me?

Small parts such as remotes, straps and keys ship by parcel carrier rather than freight; ask for the timing when you order.

Can I change my order after I've paid the deposit?

Before production starts, yes: the quote is revised and re-signed. Once the shutter is in production, changes are generally not possible.
