Rolling Shutter Guide
Ownership: care, warranty, shipping and lead time
- How do I clean and maintain my rolling shutters?Close the shutter, hose it down and wash stubborn dirt with mild soap and water, wiping up and down; do it twice a year, never with a pressure washer and not in extreme heat. If the rails feel stiff, use dry silicone spray on the guide rails only. Never oil the motor or the crank box.Read the guide →
- How are rolling shutters packed and shipped?A custom rolling shutter ships assembled, with the curtain rolled on the axle inside the box, held in foam cubes in a carton 26 to 32 inches longer than the shutter. Shutters under 96 inches long can go by parcel carrier; longer ones go by LTL freight.Read the guide →
- How long does a custom rolling shutter take to build and deliver?A custom rolling shutter takes about 10 business days to build at Roll-A-Shield, and a shipped order typically reaches you about 2 weeks after you order, longer to distant destinations. In metro Phoenix, where Roll-A-Shield measures and installs, allow 3-4 weeks from order to installed shutter.Read the guide →
- Can I pick up my rolling shutter order at the factory?Yes. Roll-A-Shield orders can be collected free of charge from the factory in Tempe, Arizona, instead of shipping. Choose pickup when you order; will-call runs weekdays after 1 PM, once the order is built and the balance is paid. Bring a vehicle longer than the shutter and a second person to lift it.Read the guide →
- How much does it cost to ship a rolling shutter, and what drives the price?Shipping a custom rolling shutter is priced per order, not from a rate card. The main drivers are carton length, weight, box count, how well the order fills a pallet, distance and access to the address, and remote destinations such as Alaska or Hawaii. Canadian orders go through a sales rep. Factory pickup in Tempe costs nothing.Read the guide →
- Can I put rolling shutters on bedroom windows, and what about egress? They can be, with planning. Roll-A-Shield's guidance for bedroom windows: check local egress rules before you order; override or solar/battery motors keep the shutter operable in an outage. A wired or remote motor without manual override is held by its brake where it stopped until the power returns.Read the guide →
- What should I do if my rolling shutter arrives damaged?Note any damage or missing cartons on the delivery receipt before the driver leaves, have the driver initial it, and photograph it. Open everything within 2 business days and report problems with photos and the paperwork. The freight claim is filed by whoever paid the freight.Read the guide →
- Can I get rolling shutter spec sheets, drawings and samples for a project?Yes. Roll-A-Shield sends architects, contractors and owners a shop drawing for each shutter on an order for sign-off, slat specification data and profile CAD drawings, motor spec sheets for the electrician, and install manuals and videos. Physical slat and color samples are mailed free on request. There is currently no CSI-format specification.Read the guide →
