If you are within driving distance of Tempe, Arizona, you can skip freight altogether and collect your order from the factory. It saves the shipping charge and the transit days, and you see the shutter before it travels. This page covers how to arrange it, when to come, what to bring and what to check before you drive away.
How do I arrange a factory pickup?
Choose pickup on the order. Whether an order ships or is held for will-call is set on the signed contract, so say so when you order. The factory is at 2680 South Industrial Park Avenue, Tempe, AZ 85282.
When can I collect it?
Will-call runs weekdays after 1 PM, once the order is built. An order takes about 10 business days to build; see how long a custom rolling shutter takes.
Two things have to be in place before the order is released:
- The balance is paid. Orders are released only when paid in full, the same as for shipped orders.
- You collect it in time. A finished order is stored free for two weeks after production; after that a weekly storage charge applies.
What vehicle do I need?
One long enough for the shutter box and the guide rails. A packed shutter's carton is the shutter or rail length plus 26 to 32 in for the end foam.
Plan for the weight too. The curtain is the heavy part: its weight in lb is width in × height in × the slat's sizing weight per sq ft / 144.
| Shutter (curtain only) | 38 mm insulated | 55 mm insulated | 63 mm single-wall |
|---|---|---|---|
| 48 × 48 in | about 15 lb | about 18 lb | about 18 lb |
| 72 × 72 in | about 33 lb | about 40 lb | about 41 lb |
| 96 × 96 in | about 59 lb | about 71 lb | about 73 lb |
The box, axle, motor and rails add to that. Bring a second person; for a big curtain, see lifting a heavy curtain. Full weight tables are on how much a rolling shutter weighs.
Safety: Handle the shutter box with care and avoid putting stress or weight on its ears; the install manual warns that they can break.
What should I check before I leave?
Check the order against the packing list before it goes in your vehicle. Every order has a packing list of the items that are not part of the shutter itself: remotes, switches, rods, U-channel, furring and the like. Count them, check slat, box and rail colors against your order, and confirm the strap or motor is on the side you ordered. What should be in a kit for each operator type is listed on what comes with a rolling shutter.
Leave the strap wrapped as it was packed until installation, so the shutter cannot unroll.
Can someone else collect it for me?
Yes. An installer or contractor can collect the order directly from the factory, which avoids the freight and the pallet. The same rules apply: the balance must be paid before the order is released.
