Ownership: care, warranty, shipping and lead time · Rolling Shutter Guide
How much does it cost to ship a rolling shutter, and what drives the price?
Shipping a custom rolling shutter is priced per order, not from a rate card. The main drivers are carton length, weight, box count, how well the order fills a pallet, distance and access to the address, and remote destinations such as Alaska or Hawaii. Canadian orders go through a sales rep. Factory pickup in Tempe costs nothing.

There is no single shipping price for a rolling shutter, because no two orders pack the same way. Roll-A-Shield does not use a freight rate card: each order's freight is worked out from its packed size, weight and destination, and the figure is on your written quote. This page explains what moves that number, so you can see why two quotes differ and what you can do to bring it down. For product prices, see how much rolling shutters cost.
What makes one shipment cost more than another?
Six things.
| Driver | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Length | A packed shutter is 26 to 32 in longer than the shutter. Under 96 in it can go by parcel carrier; longer cartons go by LTL freight. |
| Weight | Freight is priced on real weight. A curtain over 80 lb ships in its own box, which adds a carton. |
| Pallet fill | Shutters of similar size pack a pallet tightly; a mix of sizes leaves empty space and costs more. |
| Distance and access | A cross-country delivery to a home far from a freeway costs the most; an address near a freeway interchange costs less. |
| Delivery needs | A liftgate, a smaller truck or a site without a dock all have to be booked with the carrier. |
| Destination | Alaska, Hawaii and other remote destinations are possible but expensive. |
Why does a bigger shutter cost so much more to ship?
Because size and weight rise together. A shutter's carton grows with its width, and its curtain weight grows with its area: weight in lb = width in × height in × the slat's sizing weight per sq ft / 144. A 96 × 96 in shutter with 55 mm insulated slats has a curtain of about 71 lb, before the box, axle and rails. The heavier single-wall slat weighs more for the same opening. Roll-A-Shield's own shipping charge steps up for very wide units and for single-wall slat shutters. The weight table is on how much a rolling shutter weighs.
When is the freight cost confirmed?
The quote carries an estimate made for your order. The shipment itself is booked once the order is built, boxed and weighed, because carriers price the real pallet.
Do you ship to Canada, Alaska and Hawaii?
Alaska and Hawaii, yes: deliveries there are possible but cost more to reach, and distant destinations add transit days. For Canada, ask a sales rep before you order. Roll-A-Shield has shipped outside the US, but an international order is not a standard order: freight, customs and duties, lead time and payment are arranged directly with a rep. Request a quote and say where the shutters are going.
How can I bring the shipping cost down?
- Pick up at the factory. Collecting the order in Tempe removes the freight charge entirely. See picking up an order at the factory.
- Order together. Shipping several shutters on one shipment instead of two can cut the cost, and a combined order of similar sizes packs a pallet better.
- Use your own carrier. If you have a freight account, Roll-A-Shield gives you the box sizes, weights and box count for each shutter so you can book it; you pay the carrier directly.
- Describe the delivery site up front. A missing dock or a steep drive that the carrier was not told about can mean a failed or rebooked delivery, and Roll-A-Shield is not responsible for delivery problems caused by address conditions not recorded on the order.
Does rush shipping cost extra?
Yes. Expedited shipping is charged at the carrier's rates and is separate from any fee for moving an order up the production schedule. Build and delivery times are on how long a custom rolling shutter takes.
Frequently asked questions
Is shipping included in my quote?
Your written quote includes an estimated freight figure for your order, so you see a delivered price. Freight is estimated by a person for each order, not taken from a rate card.
Do you ship rolling shutters to Canada?
Ask a Roll-A-Shield sales rep before you order. Roll-A-Shield has shipped outside the US, but an international order is not a standard order: freight, customs and duties, lead time and payment are arranged directly with a rep.
Can I avoid shipping altogether?
Yes. Pick the order up at the Tempe factory; there is no shipping charge.
How much does it cost to ship a replacement remote or strap?
Small parts such as remotes, straps and keys go by parcel carrier, usually arriving in 2 to 5 days; the cost depends on the packed size and the destination.
