How do I find a rolling shutter installer, or can my own contractor install it?

How do I find a rolling shutter installer, or can my own contractor install it?

Short answer

In metro Phoenix, Roll-A-Shield's own crews install. Elsewhere there are three routes: a Roll-A-Shield dealer near you, the Install Support Program, where Roll-A-Shield manages a local third-party installer, or your own contractor working from the printed install guide. Any of them works, but a wired motor's mains connection still needs a licensed electrician.

  • Roll-A-Shield's own crews put two installers on any opening over about 9 ft wide. Roll-A-Shield data
  • Every shipped shutter comes with a printed install guide for its operator type, and the guides link to install videos. Roll-A-Shield data

Roll-A-Shield builds every shutter in Tempe, Arizona, but its own install crews work only in metro Phoenix. Everywhere else, someone local fits the shutter: a dealer, an installer Roll-A-Shield manages for you, or a contractor you hire. This page explains each route and what your own contractor needs to know.

Who installs Roll-A-Shield shutters where I live?

It depends on whether you are inside metro Phoenix.

Where the job is Who installs Who measures
Metro Phoenix Roll-A-Shield's own crews, in about 3-4 weeks from order A Roll-A-Shield technician takes the final measure
Outside metro Phoenix, where a dealer covers the area The dealer Agreed with the dealer
Outside metro Phoenix, where Install Support runs A third-party installer Roll-A-Shield manages The installer
Outside metro Phoenix, any area You or your own contractor You, on the Roll-A-Shield measure sheet

Tucson, Flagstaff and Prescott count as outside the local area. Rolling screens are sold and installed in metro Phoenix only; shutters ship anywhere.

How do I find a dealer near me?

Ask Roll-A-Shield; dealers are matched to your ZIP code and metro area.

Tell it where the job is and whether you would rather install the shutters yourself or have them installed. If a dealer covers your area, the lead goes to them. If none does, Roll-A-Shield may try to sign one up in your area; otherwise the options are a shipped self-install or, where it runs, the Install Support Program. See the dealer page.

How does the Install Support Program work?

Roll-A-Shield sells you the shutter and project-manages a local third-party installer on your behalf. It started in 2025 and runs in some areas, not everywhere.

  1. You approve the quote and pay the deposit.
  2. A Roll-A-Shield project manager takes the job.
  3. A local installer agrees to the job and takes the final measurements on site.
  4. You receive the final drawings and sign off on the confirmed sizes and price. Production starts only after both the deposit and that sign-off are in.
  5. The shutters are built and shipped to the installer's facility, not to your home.
  6. The installer fits them.

You pay in three parts: the deposit when you sign, the balance for the shutters before they ship, and a separate payment for the installation.

Can my own contractor or handyman install it?

Yes. Roll-A-Shield ships nationwide to self-installers and their contractors with a printed guide for each operator type and how-to videos.

What your contractor should know before starting:

  • The guide is in the box. It covers the strap, crank, spring, wired, remote, battery or solar version of the shutter you ordered.
  • Technicians answer the phone during the install. The guides tell installers to call with questions mid-job: (480) 921-0200.
  • They supply the wall screws. The rail and U-channel screws are chosen for the wall: brick, concrete, wood, metal or stucco.
  • Big openings need two people. Roll-A-Shield's own crews put two installers on any opening over about 9 ft wide. A rolled curtain over 80 lb ships in its own box, and a heavy curtain goes onto the axle in sections, with two people.
  • Mains wiring is an electrician's job. Follow the motor maker's instructions: terminate in a listed junction box; do not run the motor cable through the wall. Mains wiring by a licensed electrician.

If your contractor will also measure, give them the measuring guide; a shipped shutter is built to the measure sheet you send. Whether a do-it-yourself install suits you is covered on Can I install a rolling shutter myself?.

What does the installer choice mean for the warranty?

Outside metro Phoenix the warranty is parts only, no labor, whoever installs. The terms are otherwise the same: 5 years on shutter parts, 5 on motors and 2 on electronics, from the date of installation. Following a published Roll-A-Shield guide does not void the warranty. Mains wiring must be done by a licensed electrician.

Labor for any later warranty repair is not covered outside metro Phoenix. See what the warranty covers and the warranty page.

Who services the shutter later?

Outside Phoenix, a dealer handles service on the shutters it installs. Owners all over the country also phone the factory with troubleshooting and programming questions, and parts ship. In metro Phoenix, Roll-A-Shield's service team services its own shutters and can often service other makes too.

Frequently asked questions

Can you recommend an installer near me?

Roll-A-Shield matches you to a dealer or installer by ZIP code rather than publishing a list. Tell it where the job is and whether you want it installed, and the right person follows up.

Is installation included in the price outside Phoenix?

No. Outside metro Phoenix the shutter and the installation are priced separately, whether you self-install or use the Install Support Program.

Does my contractor need an electrician?

Only for wired switch and remote motors, whose 120 V AC connection is made by a licensed electrician. Strap, crank, spring, battery and solar shutters need no house wiring.

I install shutters for a living. Can I buy from Roll-A-Shield?

Yes. A business that wants to carry and resell Roll-A-Shield shutters can apply to the dealer program; see the dealer page or call (480) 921-0200.
