Metro Phoenix Outdoor TV Covers
Rolling shutter covers that protect outdoor TVs across Metro Phoenix
Your outdoor TV lives where the weather is. Roll-A-Shield builds a custom rolling shutter that comes down over the screen in its patio niche, outdoor kitchen, or media wall, keeping the sun and heat off the panel through a Valley summer, putting a solid aluminum barrier over it when monsoon dust and rain move through, and closing it out of sight when nobody is home.
Every cover is manufactured at our Tempe, Arizona facility, and one local team measures the opening, installs the shutter, and services it afterward.
Outdoor TV Protection
What is a rolling shutter outdoor TV cover, and why do Phoenix properties need one?
A rolling shutter outdoor TV cover is an exterior aluminum shutter that rolls down over the opening your television sits in, from a slim box mounted above it, and rolls back out of sight when you want to watch. Every cover is built to that opening rather than cut down from a stock size. On a Metro Phoenix patio it does three jobs at once.
Closed, it puts a solid aluminum barrier between your screen and the sun and UV that hit it every afternoon, shields the electronics beside it through dust storms and monsoon rain, and keeps the TV out of sight when the patio is empty. Open, it rolls back into the box and the screen is clear. It is the same shutter we have built for Valley homes and businesses since 1979, matched to your opening instead of a window. Colors that fit Arizona homes and buildings
Every cover is powder-coated in one of seven standard colors, slats and guide rails matched. Lighter tones reflect heat on a screen in full sun.

On-screen colors are close approximations. Your specialist can show you physical samples and confirm the exact finish for your home or building during your free on-site estimate.

Why Cover an Outdoor TV
Six ways a rolling shutter protects your outdoor TV
A cover earns its place every day of the year, not only when a storm is coming. See the full Metro Phoenix rolling shutters overview.
Sun and UV off the screen
The cover sits outside the screen, so a closed shutter blocks direct sun and UV exposure before they reach the panel. How much difference you notice depends on the opening and which way it faces.
See sun and heat protection →
Dust, debris, and monsoon rain
Close the cover and there is a solid aluminum layer between your screen and whatever the storm is carrying. Our shutters are engineered to withstand Arizona dust storms and monsoon rains.
See monsoon and dust protection →
A solid barrier against theft
A closed shutter protects the screen and the components with it from theft while the TV is not in use. That matters most on properties left unoccupied for extended periods.
See vacation and seasonal homes →
Privacy when you want it
Closed, the cover blocks the view of the area from neighbors or passersby, so the screen is out of sight rather than on display.
See residential rolling shutters →
Closed at a touch, or on a schedule
Run the cover from a remote, a wall switch, a key fob, or your phone. With timers or a smartphone app you do not have to remember to close it each night.

Built to the opening around your screen
Every outdoor TV enclosure we build is made to fit your specific installation, whether the set is a standard flat-screen or an oversized display, and it can form part of a larger patio or outdoor kitchen project.

Operation & Control
Operate the cover over your screen the way that fits your day
Every cover can be tailored to how you want to use it, from a simple manual pull to full smart-home control. Here are your options.

Remote control and wall switches
Raise and lower the shutter over your outdoor TV with one touch from a handheld remote, or wire in a wall switch beside the opening for a permanent control that anyone in the home or business can use.

Smartphone, Alexa, and Google
Add smart control and run the cover from your phone, set schedules so it closes during the hottest part of the day or every night after the patio empties, or use voice commands with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
See smart control options →
Solar and battery motors
Solar and battery-powered motors avoid running new wiring, which makes them ideal for patios and outdoor kitchens with no power at the opening, and they keep your shutters working even when the power is out.
See motor and power options →
Manual operation and override
Prefer no motor at all? Manual operation is available on the right slats. And motorized shutters can include a manual override, so a power outage never leaves an opening stuck open or closed.

What Our Customers Say
Trusted by your neighbors across Metro Phoenix
“Absolutely first class business in every respect. Highly recommend the team there. Never had a disappointment in 15+ years as a customer.”
David G.“Roll-A-Shield did a great job, from start to finish. A sales rep gave me a quote for two shades. I ended up only going with one, but was not pressured, at all, to also get the other shade. Pricing was fair, and they delivered exactly what I asked for in the exact date they said they would complete the job. Pleasure to work with everyone I came in contact with.”
Ralph C.“We updated our roller shields. We had the first set over 35 years and have updated the windows and wanted the new roller shields also. Very happy with the new look. We feel much safer in our home with them and it really helps with the electric bills.”

Answers to what Metro Phoenix homeowners and businesses ask us most about covering an outdoor TV.
01What is an outdoor TV enclosure, and how does a rolling shutter work as one?
An outdoor TV enclosure is any housing that closes over a television so the screen is protected when you are not watching. A rolling shutter does that job with exterior aluminum slats that roll down over the opening from a slim box mounted above it, and roll back up out of sight when you want to watch. Roll-A-Shield shutters can be configured to cover your outdoor TV installation, and each one is built to that specific opening rather than cut down from a stock size.
02Outdoor TV cover, outdoor TV cabinet, outdoor TV box: what is the difference?
People use the terms for different parts of the same setup. An outdoor TV cabinet or outdoor TV box usually means the joinery around the screen, the niche or surround a builder frames. An outdoor TV cover is what closes across the front of it. Roll-A-Shield builds the cover, not the cabinetry, so if you already have a cabinet or a media wall we build the shutter that closes it. If the surround is still being planned, tell your specialist before it is finished.
03Do outdoor TV covers work?
For what they are meant to do, yes. A closed aluminum shutter is a physical barrier. It keeps direct sun, blowing dust and wind-driven debris off the panel, and it puts a solid layer between the screen and anyone standing on the patio. What a cover cannot do is change what your television itself is rated for. Treat it as protection over the opening rather than a substitute for equipment built to live outdoors, and it does its job well.
04How do I protect an outdoor TV in Phoenix?
Start with a television built for outdoor use, then reduce what reaches it. In the Valley that means sun and UV through summer, dust storms and monsoon rain from July onward, and theft when the patio is empty. A rolling shutter over the opening addresses all three by closing across the screen whenever the TV is not in use. Because most are motorized, you can close it from a remote, a wall switch, a key fob or your phone before the weather arrives.
05Is a rolling shutter a weatherproof TV enclosure?
It is weather protection, not a weatherproof rating, and the difference matters. Our slats are aluminum with a baked-on powder-coated finish that resists fading, rust and corrosion, and closed they take the direct hit of sun, dust and rain that would otherwise land on your screen. Roll-A-Shield publishes no ingress or weatherproofing rating for a closed shutter and we will not imply one. If your set needs a sealed housing, choose a television rated for the exposure and use the shutter as the layer over it.
06Is this a waterproof outdoor TV cover?
No, and you should be wary of anyone who says otherwise about a rolling shutter. The curtain runs in a guide rail on each side and comes down over the opening, which sheds the weather that would otherwise reach your screen, but it is not a gasketed seal and we publish no water rating for it. That is the honest answer. Choose an outdoor-rated television first, then add the shutter as the barrier over the opening it sits in.
07Does a rolling shutter replace the need for a weather-rated outdoor TV?
No. A rolling shutter is protection over the opening, not a substitute for the right television. It shields the screen while it is closed, but it does not change what your set is rated to handle on its own. If the television is going to live outdoors, choose one built for outdoor use and confirm its temperature, moisture and mounting requirements with the manufacturer. The shutter then adds the layer that a rating does not cover: sun, dust, storms and after-hours security.
08Will an outdoor television enclosure keep sun and UV off the screen?
That is the job it does most days of the year. Because the shutter sits outside the screen, a closed curtain blocks direct sun and UV before either reaches the panel. On our foam-filled slats there is also a trapped layer of still air between the closed shutter and the opening, which slows heat transfer. How much difference you notice depends on the opening, which way it faces and the slat you choose, so a specialist walks you through it on site rather than quoting a percentage.
09What about monsoon dust, wind-driven debris and rain?
With the cover closed there is a solid aluminum layer between your screen and whatever the storm is carrying. Our shutters are engineered to withstand Arizona dust storms and monsoon rains, and closing the cover keeps blowing dust, wind-driven debris and rain off the television and the electronics beside it. Because most covers are motorized you can close the opening from a remote, a wall switch or your phone before the wall of dust arrives, without walking out to the patio.
10Do outdoor TV covers stop theft?
A closed shutter puts a solid aluminum barrier between your television and anyone standing on the patio, and it blocks the view of the area so the screen is out of sight rather than on display. Manual shutters can carry a lock on the bottom bar, and motorized covers can be run from a key switch so only certain people are able to open them. That combination matters most on a patio that sits empty, which is when an outdoor screen is most exposed.
11Can I cover the TV while I am away for the summer?
Yes, and it is one of the most common reasons Valley homeowners ask for one. Close the cover before you leave and the television stays behind an aluminum barrier the whole time you are gone, out of sight and out of the sun. Protection like this matters most on properties left unoccupied for extended periods, which is the pattern across seasonal and vacation homes here. Motorized covers can also be run from your phone, so you can close it from wherever you are.
12What should I look for in the best outdoor TV covers?
Ask four questions. What is it made of, and will the finish hold up in Arizona sun. Is it built to your opening or trimmed down from a stock size. How does it operate, and can you close it when you are not there. And who services it afterwards. Ours are aluminum with a powder-coated finish, built to the measured opening, manual or motorized depending on the slat, and installed and serviced by our own Metro Phoenix crews rather than subcontractors.
13Where can I buy outdoor TV covers in Metro Phoenix?
Direct from Roll-A-Shield. We are the manufacturer, founded in 1979, and we serve Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Glendale, Peoria and Surprise. Buying direct means the measuring, the build, the installation and the warranty service all come from one Arizona company rather than a chain of suppliers. Request a quote online or call (480) 376-1629 and a local specialist will come out and measure the opening your outdoor TV sits in.
14How do you build an outdoor TV cabinet, and where does the shutter fit in?
The cabinet is carpentry: a framed niche or surround sized to your screen, with power and any audio gear planned into it. The shutter is the part we build, and it needs room of its own. Tell us before the surround is closed up, because the box that holds the rolled-up curtain mounts above the opening and a guide rail runs down each side. On a soffit install the motor and its controls have to be routed before the soffit is closed.
15How do I make an outdoor TV enclosure a shutter can actually close?
Three things decide it. The structure has to be strong enough to carry the box, which fastens to framing rather than to trim. The surface matters, because granite, tile, brick and stucco each take different anchors, and we fabricate a build-out where a surface is uneven or bolts protrude. And the geometry has to be confirmed in person. For anything non-standard, a bookshelf, metal cladding, a bay window or an existing garage opening, we ask for photos and a site review before quoting.
16How do an outdoor TV mount and cover work together?
They have to be planned together, because the cover closes in front of whatever the screen is mounted on. A fixed flat mount leaves the most room and an articulating arm needs more. We do not publish a clearance figure, since it depends on the mount, the set and how the opening is built, so a specialist measures it on site. Shutters can also be mounted inside the opening rather than outside, which is common where an HOA restricts exterior changes.
17What size opening can a TV enclosure outdoor shutter cover?
Size is set by the slat rather than by the television. The 38 mm insulated slat covers openings up to about 12 feet wide and works with every operator. The 55 mm insulated slat, our most common residential profile, reaches about 18 feet and is motorized. The 63 mm extruded slat goes to about 20 feet for commercial and high-wind work. Most outdoor TV openings sit well inside the first two, and your specialist confirms the profile when the opening is measured.
18Is an outdoor TV case manual or motorized?
It depends on the slat, which is worth knowing before you choose one. The 38 mm insulated slat can be manual, spring, battery or motorized. The 55 mm insulated slat is motorized only. The 63 mm extruded slat is spring or motorized. Most outdoor TV covers end up motorized, because a screen set into a wall or an outdoor kitchen is not somewhere you want to reach, and a motor lets you close it from a remote, a wall switch, a key fob or your phone.
19What is a TV cover for outside made of, and how long does it last?
Aluminum. Our standard slats are extruded or roll-formed aluminum with a baked-on powder-coated finish that resists fading, rust and corrosion, and we source steel where a project calls for maximum physical security. Rolling shutters typically last 20 years or more, roughly 15 to 25 on homes and 20 to 30 or more on commercial buildings. Maintenance is light: clean the guide rails and lubricate the moving parts, which takes well under half an hour per shutter once a year.
20What warranty comes with an outdoor TV enclosure?
The same warranty as every Roll-A-Shield rolling shutter, and it is identical for homes and businesses. Shutter parts are covered for 5 years, motors for 5 years, electronic components for 2 years, and installation labor for 1 year, with the period starting the day it is installed. After the first year the coverage is parts only. Painting the slats, unauthorized alteration, or repair by anyone other than an authorized Roll-A-Shield agent will void it.
