Our Installers

Why our installers are considered the best in the Valley

Roll-A-Shield has installed rolling shutters across Metro Phoenix since 1979, and our own local crews install rolling screens too. Your shutters and screens are installed by experienced professionals, on homes and businesses alike.

Every kind of property
Bedroom windows, patio doors, and covered patios at home, and storefronts, service counters, offices, and restaurant and bar patios at work.
Every mounting method
Surface-mounted retrofits on existing buildings, in-soffit and in-wall installs on renovations, and screen housings face-mounted or recessed into a soffit.
Small jobs and wide spans
The same local crews handle a single counter or a full row of storefront glass, and wide multi-bay screen spans set up on group motor control.
Manual or motorized
Crank and strap operation, hardwired motors, and solar or battery motors that need no new wiring at the opening are all part of the work.
Tested before handoff
Each shutter and screen is tested on site once it is installed.

Why Our Crews

Why end-to-end service matters

When the company that measures and builds your order also installs it, nothing is handed off to another company along the way. Here is what that means for your rolling shutters and screens.

Measured and built to fit

Every rolling shutter and rolling screen is built to order from the exact measurements of your opening. Shutters are made to those dimensions, not trimmed from a stock size.

Motors and Controls

Powered, programmed, and tested

Motorized shutters need power run to the motor and the controls paired. On screens, our crew sets the motor, programs your remotes, and tests every screen. Here is what each product gets at setup.

Setting the motor

Motorized units need power run to the motor. Our crew sets the motor. Solar motors need no new wiring, and a hardwired motor needs power near the opening.

Obstacle detection

The motors we install include obstacle detection, so the screen stops if something is in its path. It is part of every motorized screen we set up.

Manual override

Wired shutter and screen motors can have a crank manual override, so the opening can still be worked by hand in an outage. Ask about it at your estimate.

Openings We Fit

Fitted to every opening

From window shutter installation to patio doors and storefronts, each opening is fitted a little differently. Here is what the install involves on each one, and which product it applies to.

Windows
Shutters: the box mounts above the window and the guide rails fasten to the jambs. Screens: the housing mounts above it and the side tracks are anchored down each side.
Doors and sliders
Both products roll down over the door from a slim box or housing mounted above it, running in side rails or tracks. Shutters also fit entry doors.
Patios and outdoor living areas
Screens: housings face-mounted to the wall, fascia, or beam, or recessed into a soffit. Shutters also fit patio openings.
Storefronts and service counters
Access, mounting, and span vary far more on commercial openings than on a home. Shutters cover storefronts and counters; screens shade storefronts.

Common Questions

Your questions, answered.

Straight answers on shutter installation near you in Metro Phoenix: who installs, what rolling shutter installation involves, hurricane and security shutters, warranty, and service after the install.

01Who offers shutter installation services near me in Metro Phoenix?

Roll-A-Shield does, directly. We have served the Valley since 1979, and our own local crews install rolling shutters and rolling screens in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Glendale, Peoria, and Surprise. On your shutters, measuring, manufacturing, installation, and warranty service all come from one Arizona company. Request a quote online or call (480) 376-1629 and we will schedule a free on-site estimate.

02What does rolling shutter installation involve?

It starts before install day. A local specialist measures every opening at your free on-site estimate, and each shutter is manufactured to those dimensions at our Tempe facility. On install day, the shutter box is mounted above the opening and the guide rails are fastened to the jambs on each side, plumb and square. Motorized shutters also need power run to the motor and the controls paired. Our own local crew then installs and tests the finished system, and installation is included in the price we quote you.

03What belongs on a rolling shutter installation checklist?

A few choices are settled at the estimate so each shutter is built right for its opening: exterior or interior mounting, the slat profile, manual or motorized operation, the controls you want, and whether a wired motor should carry a crank manual override. Your color is confirmed with physical samples. After installation, the shutter should run its full travel and the controls should respond. For rolling shutters, “your installer completes a warranty card at the time of installation, which is required for coverage to be valid; keep a copy for your records.”

04Can you do exterior window shutter installation on an existing home?

Yes. As our rolling security shutters page explains, “The most common method is retrofit (surface mount), which works on nearly any existing building without structural changes.” The housing box and guide rails attach directly to the exterior wall, and in-soffit and in-wall options are available for renovation projects. Exterior mounts are measured to allow clearance around soffits, gutters, and trim. On a retrofit, solar and battery-powered motors avoid running new wiring and keep the shutter working when the power is out.

05Do you offer interior shutter installation, or exterior only?

Our rolling shutters come in both exterior and interior mounting. Exterior mounting puts the barrier outside the glass and is the usual choice. Interior mounting fits within the window reveal and is “especially popular in HOA communities where exterior modifications are restricted.” Decorative interior shutters, such as plantation shutters, are a different product: they mount inside the room and mainly manage light and privacy.

06Do you install hurricane shutters and storm shutters near me in Phoenix?

Yes, in the rolling format. “Hurricane shutters and storm shutters are exterior covers that shield windows and doors from wind-driven debris,” and roll down hurricane shutters are the same format we build: aluminum slats that roll down over the opening and lock in place. Arizona does not get hurricanes, but monsoon season brings microbursts, blowing dust, and debris driven at glass, and a closed rolling shutter puts a solid aluminum barrier in front of the window. For openings with high wind exposure, the extruded slat profiles are the ones used, and your specialist can recommend one at the estimate.

07What does residential security shutter installation include?

It puts a strong physical barrier over the windows and doors you choose. The curtain is made of interlocking aluminum slats that run in guide rails, and when it is fully closed, the sealed bottom bar locks the shutter in place. Ground-floor windows, patio and entry doors, and garage door windows are common openings to cover. Closed, the shutters also block outside visibility for privacy, and partly open, they still let in light and air.

08Do you handle security shutter installation for Phoenix businesses?

Yes. For storefronts, entry doors, service and pickup counters, and drive-through or walk-up windows, we install security shutters that put a solid aluminum barrier across the opening after hours and roll back up out of sight during business hours. Commercial openings usually use the 63 mm extruded aluminum slat, and access can be limited with an outdoor key switch, an interior toggle switch, or a key fob. Every commercial shutter is custom-built, so each one is priced for its own opening.

09Can you install a rolling shutter door?

Yes. Rolling shutters cover patio doors, sliding glass doors, entry doors, and commercial entries the same way they cover windows: the curtain stores in a slim box above the doorway and travels in side rails. On commercial fronts they work as roll-down security doors. Because a rolling shutter can be completely retracted when it is not needed, a doorway that doubles as an exit stays usable from inside while the shutter is up.

10Do you offer outdoor shutter installation for patios?

Yes, and you have two options for a covered patio or outdoor living area. A rolling shutter closes the opening behind a solid aluminum barrier. A rolling screen is a mesh product that shades the space and keeps bugs out while air still moves through, so the patio stays usable. A screen is not a solid storm barrier, so it should be retracted when high winds are expected.

11Who measures my openings before installation?

A local specialist, at your free on-site estimate. Our rolling screens page explains that it “starts with a free on-site estimate where a local specialist measures every opening, because each screen is made for that opening and nothing else.” Shutters are handled the same way: each one is measured to your exact opening and made to those dimensions rather than trimmed down from a stock size. On rolling screen projects, final measurements happen at that same appointment rather than on a separate trip back.

12How long does rolling shutter installation take?

It depends on the product and the size of the job. Our Metro Phoenix overview notes that “Most residential installations are completed in a single day.” For rolling screens, our guarantee page says “The install day is a matter of hours, not days,” and “Larger multi bay or commercial jobs can run into a second day.” The wait before install day is a separate question. Under our 4-Week Install Guarantee, “We install your motorized patio screens within 4 weeks of your deposit, or you get $500 back,” with eligibility and installation timing confirmed during your free quote.

13Do you offer shutter installation in Gilbert and Peoria, AZ?

Yes. Gilbert and Peoria are both in our Metro Phoenix service area, and our own local crews install rolling shutters and rolling screens there on homes and businesses alike. Every estimate is free and on-site. For more on each city, see our Gilbert and Peoria pages.

14What are exterior rolling shutters in Phoenix, AZ?

As our rolling shutters page puts it, “Phoenix rolling shutters are exterior aluminum shutters that roll down over a window, door, or opening from a slim box mounted above it, and roll back up out of sight when you do not need them.” “In Metro Phoenix they do several jobs at once: they block the sun before it reaches the glass to cut heat and glare, add a solid physical barrier for security and privacy, and shield windows from monsoon dust and wind-blown debris.”

15Do you install rolling screens as well as rolling shutters?

Yes. Alongside rolling shutters, we install motorized rolling screens on covered patios, windows, and sliding glass doors at home, and on restaurant and bar patios, storefronts, and other commercial openings. Every rolling screen is custom-measured for the exact opening it covers and installed by our own Metro Phoenix crews. Eligible screen projects can also qualify for our 4-Week Install Guarantee.

16How much does rolling shutter installation cost?

There is no flat price, because each shutter is built for its own opening. On shutters, “the price per window depends mostly on the size of the opening, the slat you choose, and whether the shutter is manual or motorized.” On screens, size is “the single biggest driver”, and mounting, access to the opening, the motor, and the controls you add move the number too. Installation is included in the price we quote you, and your exact price comes from a free on-site estimate. For ranges, read our rolling shutter cost guide and rolling screen cost guide.

17Is Roll-A-Shield licensed in Arizona?

Yes. As our rolling shutters page states, “We are licensed, bonded, and insured under Arizona ROC 342265.” ROC 342265 is the company’s Arizona contractor license number.

18What warranty comes with rolling shutters?

A written limited warranty that runs from your date of installation. Our warranty page states that every Roll-A-Shield rolling shutter, insulated or extruded, residential or commercial, carries the same limited warranty: “1 year on labor, 5 years on shutter parts, 5 years on motors, 2 years on electronic components, and 1 year on 15mm strap manual shutters.” Installation workmanship is listed on its own: “Labor on your original local installation is covered for 1 year for shutters and screens alike.” For rolling shutters, “your installer completes a warranty card at the time of installation, which is required for coverage to be valid; keep a copy for your records.” Read the full warranty terms.

19What warranty comes with rolling screens?

A separate written limited warranty, also running from your date of installation. Our warranty page states that every Roll-A-Shield rolling screen, whichever mesh or fabric you choose, carries the same limited warranty: “1 year on labor, 10 years on fabric against fading, 5 years on motors, 5 years on extrusions and parts, and 2 years on electronic components.” Installation workmanship is listed on its own: “Labor on your original local installation is covered for 1 year for shutters and screens alike.” One exclusion matters in the Valley: “Wind damage is not covered under any rolling screen warranty.” Read the full warranty terms.

20What if something isn’t right after installation?

Call us. Our warranty page says to “Call (480) 376-1629 or request service online with your name, installation address, and a description of the issue.” From there, “Our team confirms coverage against the terms above and schedules a service visit, then a local technician inspects the shutter or screen on site and repairs or replaces the covered part.” Work outside the warranty is billed as a paid service call, and for shutters, our rolling shutter repair page notes that “A service-call fee applies when a technician comes out, so ask about it when you book.”
