Rolling Shutter Guide
Parts identification
- Who made my rolling shutter, and how can I tell from what I can see?Start with the maker's sticker: current Roll-A-Shield shutters carry one on the bottom bar. Then check the shape of the box, the brand on the remote, the control on the wall and the slat profile. Without a sticker, send photos and the address: Roll-A-Shield can check its install records and review the photos.Read the guide →
- How do I match replacement slats to my existing rolling shutter?Match slats by measurement, not by a profile name. Measure the visible height and thickness of one slat, note whether it is foam-filled or single-wall, vented, perforated or end-retained, and photograph a slat end so the hinge shows. For a Roll-A-Shield shutter the original order fixes the length; other makes are confirmed from photos before any quote.Read the guide →
- Can I still get a battery, charger or controller for an OZRoll, E-Port or BOS battery shutter? For OZRoll E-Series shutters with an E-Port wall plate, usually yes: the battery is inside the removable E-Port controller, and Roll-A-Shield's store carries an OZRoll battery and charger. Other OZRoll parts depend on what is on hand, as there is no US distributor. The older BOS battery switchboard is no longer made, so a failed BOS usually means converting.Read the guide →
- Can I get parts for an older or other-brand rolling shutter, and what is interchangeable?Often, if each part is matched by measurement rather than by name. Pull straps, tubular motors, remotes and many box parts can be matched across makes, but a motor needs the crown, drive and bracket for its axle, a remote must match the motor brand, and slats must fit the existing hinge and rails. Send photos and measurements before ordering.Read the guide →
- Can a Somfy or Gaposa motor in another company’s shutter be serviced or replaced?Yes. A Gaposa or Somfy tubular motor works the same whoever built the shutter: pairing, limits and remotes follow the motor brand. A replacement has to match the brand, the control type (switch or radio), the axle size with its crown and drive, the mounting bracket and the lift the curtain needs. Roll-A-Shield services shutters it did not build.Read the guide →
- Which remote works with my rolling shutter motor?A remote has to match the motor's brand and radio system. Gaposa radio motors take Gaposa remotes (434.15 MHz on current models); Somfy RTS motors (433.42 MHz) take Somfy RTS remotes. A wall-switch motor has no receiver, and OZRoll battery shutters run from their E-Port controller. The brand is printed on the old remote and on the motor head.Read the guide →
