Privacy Screens · Metro Phoenix
Privacy screens for Metro Phoenix homes and businesses
Motorized outdoor privacy screens drop over the opening you want covered: windows, sliding glass doors, covered patios, outdoor rooms, and ground-floor storefront and office glass.
Every screen is retractable and custom-configured. One Metro Phoenix team handles it from our Tempe facility, measuring your openings and installing with our own crews.
What They Do
How outdoor privacy screens work
An exterior mesh screen rolls down over the opening from a slim housing and runs in side tracks. It blocks the view in while you keep the view out and the airflow.
Retract it and the opening is clear again. Privacy becomes something you turn on when you want it, not a permanent change to the property. See our guide to rolling screens in Metro Phoenix.
Before & After
With and without privacy screens
The same Metro Phoenix home, one opening left open and the other with a rolling privacy screen lowered. The screen covers the sightline into the room while everything behind it carries on as normal.
Common Situations
Where the sightlines are
Privacy problems in the Valley are usually specific. One window, one patio edge, one angle from the house next door. These are the ones Metro Phoenix homeowners call us about most.
Close-set lots and side yards
On a tight lot the side yard window and the window next door face each other directly.
Second-story windows next door
A two-story home beside you looks straight down into the yard or the pool deck.
Patios on a common area
Backing onto a path, common area, or golf corridor puts foot traffic at your patio edge.
Pool decks without landscaping
A newer lot with no mature trees leaves the pool deck open on every side.
For Your Home
Patio privacy screens for your home
Most homes do not need every opening covered. One or two usually carry the whole problem, and the rest of the house can stay exactly as it is. Your specialist will tell you which ones.
Covered patios and outdoor rooms
Turn an open patio into a room you can sit in without an audience.
Sliding doors and great rooms
One wide opening usually does most of the exposing. Cover it and the room changes.
Bedrooms and bathrooms
The rooms where you notice the gap first, covered at the opening instead of at the glass.
Pool decks and spas
Screen the one side that is overlooked and the rest of the yard stays open.
For Business
Exterior privacy screens for your business
Business glass has the same problem at a different scale. Street-level windows put your interior, your staff, and your customers on display to everyone walking past or parked outside all day.
Offices and conference rooms
A ground-floor meeting room with street glass has no cover for a whiteboard or a screen.
Retail and gallery frontage
Cover the frontage after hours without boxing the display in during trading hours.
Restaurant and bar patios
Give seated guests a break from the sidewalk and the parking lot beside them.
Counters and drive-thru windows
Close the sightline to a register or a service window between shifts.
The Honest Version
Day privacy, night privacy
Mesh privacy is directional, and it changes at sunset. This is the part worth understanding before you choose a fabric, because it decides which weave and which color are right for your opening.
How it reads in daylight
Looking out stays clearer than looking in, because the bright side of a mesh is the side that reads as a surface. In daylight that is the side facing the street.
After dark it reverses
Turn on your interior lights while the outside is dark and the bright side moves indoors. A sun or view-through mesh is not a nighttime privacy solution on its own.
What to do about it
A tighter weave, a darker color, and a privacy or blackout fabric each change the result. For total blackout or full physical closure, a rolling shutter is the correct tool for that opening.
Automatic Privacy
Motorized privacy, on your schedule
The screens run on a motor, so covering an opening is one tap or no tap at all. Set the street-facing ones to close at the same time each day, or drop the whole patio from your phone.
Remote control and wall switches
One tap lowers a motorized patio screen over a window, a sliding door, or a whole covered patio. Group several screens on one channel so an entire elevation closes together, or wire a wall switch beside the door you actually walk past.

Schedules, smartphone, and voice
Set the openings that need covering to close at the same time every day, a street-facing bedroom in the morning or the patio through the evening, and the privacy takes care of itself whether or not anyone is home to think about it.
A Bond Bridge adds the rest: run your motorized retractable patio screens from your phone anywhere, or by voice through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.

Solar and battery motors
Solar motors run completely wireless, with no new wiring and no electrician, so a privacy screen goes on a back patio or a detached opening that has no power nearby.
They keep working in an outage too, because they draw on their own stored charge rather than the house. Battery options cover openings that do not get enough direct sun to run on solar.

Retractable privacy screens and the alternatives
Every option here does something well. What follows is what each one costs you at the opening, so you can see where a retractable screen earns its place and where it does not.
| Option | What it costs you |
|---|---|
| Rolling privacy screens | Need a proper measure and a housing above the opening, and a motor if you want it hands-free. |
| Blinds and curtains | Cover the sightline only by closing the window off. You lose the view and the daylight for as long as they are shut. |
| Frosted film or tint | Permanent once applied. It covers the glass all year, including the months you wanted the view back. |
| Hedges and walls | Take years to fill in, need water and trimming, and cover only the line they happen to sit on. |
| Fixed exterior screens | Work at the opening, which is right, but stay down every day of the year with no way to clear the view. |
Mesh & Color
Color changes how much shows through
The performance mesh comes in six colors, with the frame finish a separate choice. The darker the mesh, the more it reads as a surface from the street and the clearer your view stays from inside.
Fabric colors
Performance mesh · 6 options
Darker tones like Black and Charcoal stay the clearest to see through from inside, because a dark mesh absorbs light rather than scattering it. Lighter earth tones like Tumbleweed and Tobacco blend into desert and Southwest exteriors and trade away some of that crispness in return.
Frame and housing colors
Powder-coated aluminum · 6 options
Frame and housing color is a separate choice from fabric. Matched to the stucco, fascia, or trim, the housing disappears into the architecture when the screen is retracted.
On-screen colors are close approximations. Your specialist can show you physical mesh and frame samples and confirm the exact combination for your home or building during your free estimate.
Our Promise
Privacy installed in 4 weeks
Privacy is worth most on the openings that bother you now, not next season. So we put a deadline on the install date, and we put $500 behind the deadline.
4-Week Install Guarantee
Your install date in writing, before we leave.
Installed within 4 weeks of your deposit, or you get $500 back.
Your eligibility is confirmed in writing before you place a deposit, never after. If your project falls outside the guarantee for any reason, your specialist tells you at the quote and gives you a realistic install window instead.
The 4-week window applies when you choose from the colors already stocked here in the Valley. Any other color in the range is still yours, on standard lead time instead.

Proudly Serving
Metro Phoenix
Privacy is a property problem before it is a city problem. A close-set infill lot puts your side yard window a few feet from the one next door, and the fix is a tight weave on two openings. A newer subdivision with young landscaping is the opposite: wide sightlines, nothing grown in yet, and a pool deck open on every side. Behind a golf corridor or a walking path the traffic is at the patio edge rather than at the fence line. We measure and install across the Valley, and what changes from one job to the next is the sightline, not the zip code.
What Our Customers Say
Trusted by your neighbors across Metro Phoenix
“I love, love my Roll-A-Shield. We have 2 windows that got full sun in the AM and PM and our windows were so hot. Now that we can close them there is no heat on them.”
Donna V.“Excellent job from start to finish. The quoting process was an easy no-pressure process. When the installer came to make official measurements, there was a concern with one preliminary measurement that was addressed and resolved through good communication.”
Monroe T.“Total game changer. The install was clean and professional, and the product works exactly as it should, smooth, sturdy, and easy to operate.”

What Metro Phoenix homeowners and businesses ask us about outdoor privacy screens: what a mesh actually covers, when it stops working, what it costs, and what to use instead when it is the wrong tool.
01What are outdoor privacy screens and how do they work?
They are exterior mesh screens that roll down over an opening from a slim housing above it. The fabric runs in zip side-retention tracks that hold it taut, so it covers the whole opening instead of flapping in it. Closed, the weave breaks up the view from outside while you keep the view out and the air moving. Open, it rolls back into the housing and the opening is clear again. Windows, sliding glass doors, covered patios, outdoor rooms and ground-floor commercial glass all take the same system.
02Can people see through outdoor privacy screens during the day?
Not easily, and that is the useful direction. The bright side of a mesh is the side that reads as a surface, and in daylight the bright side is the one facing the street. Someone outside sees the weave. You see past it. How complete that is depends on the fabric: a tighter weave and a darker color give more cover, an open weave gives less. What nobody should tell you is that it is absolute. Movement right up against the glass can still register.
03Do outdoor screens for privacy still work after dark?
Not on their own. Once your interior lights are on and the outside is dark, the lighting reverses and the effect reverses with it: the bright side is now indoors, so the mesh stops reading as a surface from outside and starts reading as one from inside. Anyone who tells you a view-through mesh delivers nighttime privacy is selling. If night is the problem you are actually solving, say so at the estimate, because it changes which fabric belongs on that opening.
04What are the best retractable privacy screens for a Valley home?
The best motorized patio screens are the ones matched to the opening, so the honest answer is a short checklist rather than a product name. Look for zip side-retention tracks rather than a loose hem, because that is what holds a wide span taut. Look for a fabric grade chosen for your sightline instead of one house mesh used everywhere. Look for a motor sized to the screen rather than to the price. And look for someone who measures your openings instead of quoting from a photograph.
05How do motorized patio screens compare to fixed outdoor privacy screens and panels?
A fixed screen or panel commits the opening to cover on every day of the year. That is fine where the sightline never changes and you never want the view back. Motorized outdoor screens do the same job in the same place, the outside of the opening, and then retract into the housing when you want the space open again. On a patio you actually use, that difference is the entire point of paying for a motor.
06How much do motorized patio screens cost?
There is no list price, because every screen is built to the opening it covers. What moves the number is the width and height of that opening, the fabric you choose, the track system, and the motor. A ground-floor bedroom window and a three-bay covered patio are not the same job, and any figure quoted before someone measures is a guess dressed up as an answer. The estimate is free and on site. For how the pricing works, see what rolling screens cost in Phoenix.
07Are patio privacy screens manual or motorized?
Motorized. Rolling screens run on a motor rather than a crank or a spring, because the fabric has to travel evenly in the side tracks to stay taut across a wide opening. In practice that is also what makes them worth having, since a screen you have to wrestle is a screen you leave up. For the motors, the controls and the options in full, see motorized retractable patio screens.
08Do motorized outdoor screens need wiring or an electrician?
Not with a solar motor. Solar units arrive as a package with the motor, battery and panel already wired together, so there is no new circuit to run and no electrician to book. The panel does need real daylight to hold its charge, which means it goes where the sun actually reaches rather than where it looks tidiest. Hardwired options cover openings that never see direct sun.
09Can motorized retractable patio screens run on a schedule or from my phone?
Yes, with a smart hub. A Bond Bridge connects your screens to your home network, so you can run them from your phone from anywhere, set them on a schedule, or use voice through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. For privacy the schedule earns its keep on the openings you cover at the same time every day, a street-facing bedroom in the morning or a patio through the afternoon, so it happens without anyone having to think about it.
10Do motorized screens for patio openings work in a power outage?
Solar and battery motors do, because they are not drawing from the house at all. They run off their own stored charge, so an outage does not leave a screen stranded half way down. One thing worth knowing: a solar motor does not take a manual override crank, so its charge is what runs it. If an opening sits in shade for most of the day, your specialist will steer you to a different motor rather than hope.
11Do privacy screens for windows work the same as patio screens?
Same system, smaller. The housing, the side tracks and the motor are the same, and what changes is the width and the fabric you would sensibly choose. A bedroom or bathroom window usually wants more cover than a patio, because you are not sitting there enjoying a view through it. The screen mounts outside the glass, so it works whether the blinds behind it are open or closed.
12Which fabric gives the most privacy on patio screens for privacy?
A blackout fabric, which is solid rather than woven, so nothing reads through it in either direction. Among the meshes it runs privacy fabric, then a tighter weave, then a more open one, and every step toward more cover costs you some view out and some airflow. Color works alongside weave: darker fabrics read as more of a surface from outside and stay the clearest to look out through from inside. Where the requirement is a solid physical barrier rather than a fabric, a rolling shutter is the correct tool for that opening.
13Do retractable privacy screens block your view out?
No, and that is the reason to use a mesh instead of a solid covering. From inside, the darker side, you read through the weave to the yard, the street or the pool deck. How crisp that stays tracks the fabric: an open weave keeps the sharpest view, a privacy fabric limits it, a blackout fabric removes it. If keeping the view matters more to you than total cover, lead with that at the estimate and the fabric choice follows from it.
14Do privacy screens for patio spaces still let air through?
Mesh is woven, so yes. Air moves through the weave while the weave breaks up the view, which is a trade a solid panel or a garden wall cannot make. A more open weave moves more air and covers less. A tighter weave covers more and moves less. On a covered patio most people land somewhere in the middle, because a space you cannot feel a breeze in stops being a space you want to sit in.
15Do outdoor privacy screens keep bugs out too?
Only if you choose insect mesh, which is a different fabric from privacy mesh. Privacy fabric is woven for cover, and while it is not an open doorway, it is not built as a barrier to insects either. The same housing, tracks and motor take either fabric, so this is a fabric decision at the estimate rather than a different product. If bugs are the main thing you are solving, start with our page on patio bug and insect screens.
16Do retractable privacy outdoor screens hold up to monsoon wind?
With the right track system, yes, and with the sense to retract them in a real blow. Zip side-retention tracks lock the fabric into the rails so it stays taut instead of billowing or pulling loose, which is what matters on a wide span. Even so, the safest place for any screen in a serious gust is up in its housing, and a wind sensor retracts it automatically. Wind damage is excluded from the screen warranty, with no wind speed threshold, which is exactly why the sensor exists.
17Are wrinkles in privacy patio screens normal?
Often, yes, and it is worth knowing before your screens arrive rather than after. Rolling screen fabric is a woven textile stored on a roll, so light wrinkling can be a normal characteristic of the material rather than a defect. Your specialist raises it at the quote instead of leaving you to find it on install day. If what you are looking at seems like more than that, call us and we will come and look at it.
18What warranty comes with motorized retractable patio screens?
The manufacturer warranty runs 10 years on the fabric against fading, 5 years on the motor, 5 years on the extrusions and parts, 2 years on the electronics, and 1 year on the installation labor. Fabric carries the longest term because fading is what this climate does to a textile first. Excluded: wind damage, closing the screen on an object, unauthorized modification, misuse, neglect, and acts of God. After the first year, covered parts stay covered but labor for a repair becomes the customer's responsibility.
19How fast can you install motorized patio screens near me?
