Both use a rolled-aluminum, foam-insulated design. The 38mm slat is 1.5 inches tall and spans openings up to 12.1 feet wide; it supports manual (pull strap, crank), spring-loaded, battery, and motorized operation. The 55mm slat is 2.2 inches tall, spans openings up to 18.5 feet wide, and is available in electric/remote operation only. In short: choose 38mm for standard windows and doors under 12 feet where manual operation matters, and 55mm for larger openings or when maximum insulation and span are the priority.

It depends on the opening. For standard sliding patio doors under 12 feet wide, the 38mm Insulated Slat is a great fit, especially if you want the option of a manual pull strap or crank for everyday use. For wider patio openings, multi-panel doors, or when you want the extra insulation and noise reduction of a thicker slat, the 55mm Standard Foam-Filled slat is the better choice.
